Conceptions of Literacy 2

This session will be concerned with a number of issues that have arisen or been touched upon in previous sessions. In particular, it will address, through the introduction of different approaches to literacy, a number of oppositions: competence/performance; coding/decoding' coding-decoding/comprehension-meaning; authoring/sudiencing; speech/writing; etc.

Objectives

  1. Explore literacy in terms of emphasis on competence/performance.
  2. Consider alternative interpretations of 'literacy'.
