Session 9: 8th March Room 944

(4000 word draft due this week)

Implications for Practice

In our view there are no general implications for practice that should be drawn from within the field of educational research; research interrogates and problematises educational practice, but does not, should not prescribe for it. Rather, practitioners need to view research from the perspective of their own educational practices and recruit and recontextualise from the field of research in ways that they must determine. In this session we will share the implications that participants have drawn for their own practice from their participation on the course. The items of 'additional reading' may suggest a different view or may illustrate some of our concerns regarding the conventional view of the relationship between research and practice.

Objectives

  1. Exchange recontextualisations of elements of the course content from the professional perspectives of participants.
Essential Preparatory Activity
You should focus on one or more issue that has been raised during the course of the module and consider how this might suggest action in the context of your own professional practice. You should prepare a brief presentation (approximately 10 minutes, to be delivered in groups of 3-4) including practical illustrations. Ideally, your presentation (and/or materials relating to it) should be posted on a site accessible from ioe networked computers. If you opt for the coursework title below for your assessment piece for this module, then you should take a different aspect of the module for consideration for this session.
