*If no application has been submitted for upgrading by this time, the academic School/ Research Unit concerned should arrange a formal review meeting of the student’s advisory panel to discuss the progress of the student and to give feedback.

The student's supervisor, advisory panel and School/Research Unit should be aware of the requirements of some funding bodies that continuation of funding beyond the first or second year is dependent upon upgrading from MPhil to PhD, and should help students with such scholarships to plan their work accordingly.

Students should normally complete all assignments which are required for the Doctoral School Research Training Programme before an application for upgrading may be considered.
