Upgrading Registration from MPhil to PhD

  • What materials must be presented at upgrade? (IoE guidelines)
    • Personal Training & Development Portfolio
      • Record of training on the Doctoral School Programme etc
      • Annual Progress Review forms
      • Confirmation (by the supervisor) of the successful completion of written assignments
    • Substantial report of the work completed so far (for example):
      • working title and abstract;
      • introduction giving a clear statement of the rationale for the research and the research question plus an outline of the structure of the thesis as a whole and a clear indication of the relationship of the materials submitted to that structure;
      • full critical review of relevant research literature;
      • discussion of the theoretical position to be taken in the thesis;
      • research methodology;
      • a representation of data and preliminary analysis
      • list of references made in the materials submitted.
    • Plan of action and schedule for the completion of the thesis.
  • NB The standard of presentation and English must be appropriate for a PhD thesis of the University of London.
