  • Recall G and Y 'police' texts:

    • Y reader has a career within mathematics and is apprenticed into the esoteric domain

    • G reader has no career and has no access to the generative principles of the esoteric domain

      • this is a dependent reader that is given no subjectivity: the privileged esoteric domain principles are invisible

      • there is a spurious apprenticeship into mythical (often domestic) practices—mythical as a result of the principle of recontextualisation: this is the myth of participation that claims that school mathematics will facilitate/optimise participation in non-mathematical activity
