Text Analysis
These are the general principles that I apply in text analysis:
- The text must be bounded as an object for analysis.
- In its reading, the text is being referred to something other than itself - its referrent. In formal analysis, this referrent is an analytic framework - a language of description - that is to be made more or less explicit.
- The analysis consists in addressing the question, how does the text operate as an instance of its referent?
- The principle strategy is to look for polarisations and associations.
- Theoretically, my aim is to maximise coherence.
- Empirically, my aim is to maximise the exhaustion of the text.
Please mail questions or responses or relevant urls to me and I'll post them.
