Text Analysis

These are the general principles that I apply in text analysis:

  1. The text must be bounded as an object for analysis.

  2. In its reading, the text is being referred to something other than itself - its referrent. In formal analysis, this referrent is an analytic framework - a language of description - that is to be made more or less explicit.

  3. The analysis consists in addressing the question, how does the text operate as an instance of its referent?

  4. The principle strategy is to look for polarisations and associations.

  5. Theoretically, my aim is to maximise coherence.

  6. Empirically, my aim is to maximise the exhaustion of the text.
